PAGE PAGE 18 Unit one Going out on Dates Teaching objective: In this unit, students will basically master the new words and expressions; and should also know how to use them correctly. This unit will concentrate on listening skill, but speaking skill will also get trained since communication involves both listening and speaking. This unit introduces three short stories. Two stories are factual and one is a piece of fiction. All three stories attempt to teach us something about people and how they react in certain circumstances. The first passage tells the true story of a man driven by greed to live out a fantasy. The next passage, a piece of fiction, describes the exploits of a secret agent. The last passage shows us how a group of people sometimes behave when faced with a dangerous situation that does not force them, as individuals, to help. All three stories have more to teach us than just English: they also teach us about people.
