III III IV IV ABSTRACT Cai Yuanpei is a worthwhile studying figure in modern Chinese history. He is a famous democratic revolutionist, educator and politician. He devoted his life to realizing the lofty ideals and struggling for life, from the Hundred Days’ Reform , the Revolution of 1911, the May 4th Movement and to the Anti-Japanese War. He is always the guarantee of human rights, maintaining freedom, equality, democratic and science. He struggled for womens rights and the liberation of the human personality. Meanwhile he struggled strongly and unremittingly . In the Cai Yuanpei era, the Chinese nation was reduced to a semi-colonial and semi-feudal society because of the imperialist cruel ravage and warlords’ reactionary brutal rule. People lived a hard time. Constant changes in such a political situation, he always fighted with foreign imperialists, domestic warlords, the Kuomintang reactionaries and other reactionary persons and parties which are all kinds of evil forces. H e spared no effort to maintain the national interests, protect the peoples safety and human rights. Cai Yuanpei’s education mode was traditional. The family education formed his character of justice and kindness and influenced a preliminary outlook. He was deeply influenced by the Chinese classical culture. His Chinese nationalism was strongly sprouted, especially the Confucian benevolence, sympathy, Do unto others as you would be done and the Chinese classical culture, conscience, justice, compassion for the formation of Cai Yuanpeis human rights, which provided deep background for the theory.
