* The header of a database record contains a lot of information which was entered manually, including a description of the sequence, its organism of origin, associated literature references and cross-links to related sequences in other databases. A unique identifier of the record is given at the beginning of the entry, in the LOCUS field in Genbank (or the ID field in EMBL, DDBJ, SWISS-PROT etc).
