Error proofing is a process control. Perhaps it is to slow, too expensive, too low severity, occurrence or detection. If you add error proofing to GP-12, avoiding it for production, you need to consider this very closely. Enhancements could be more accurate measurements, gaging. Increased use of CMM. Error proofing validation through introduction of know defects- to me this is not containment. Perhaps increase the use of master or limit parts. Perhaps ask operators to consider ways error proofing could be foiled and improved. Increased involvement and visibility of top management- participate in expediting changes. May have a GP-12 manager to coordinate data and facilitate adjustments in processes or GP-12. Be positive and treat GP-12 as an “improvement opportunity”.
