PAGE PAGE 1 The Present and Future of China National Science and Technology Library —Towards a new paradigm of Sci-tech Information Resource Sharing Liansheng Meng Library of Chinese Beijing, 【Abstract】Since its foundation, especially, the broaching of its network service system at the end of 2000, National Science Technology Library (NSTL) has made a rapid progress in constructing sci-tech information resource sharing system and offering web-based information service to the users of scientific and technical communities all over China. The foundation background of NSTL, the characteristics of its organization structure, the functions of its service, the tentative plan of its further development, as well as the demonstrating function of its constructing pattern to the reformation of Chinese sci-tech information management system were described in this paper. 【Keywords】NSTL (National Science Technology Library) Document resource construction Web-based information service Information resource sharing Information resource sharing has been the traditional work in library resource development and library service areas for over 100 years. Inter-library loan was a typical resource sharing in early period of library development, revealing collections through union catalogues. Since the mid of 20 century, library resource sharing has spread to almost all library development and service fields, from acquisition to document processing, from database construction to reference work, from common use of a reserve stock to varied networked information services, along with the development of computer technology and information network, with the ongoing increase of digitalized information resources. Nowadays, library co-operation is developing in depth, in broadness, in a rapid speed and a large scale that never happened before.
