Many potentially interesting topics are made boring or difficult to understand because the speaker doesn’t know how to deliver their speech or is poorly prepared. Delivery can be divided into two parts: physical delivery and vocal delivery. How you appear to the audience: how you dress, stand and behave is part of physical delivery. It is important to look smart and to stand up straight, if you want an audience to believe what you say. You need to look relaxed and in control. You also need to be able to use your hands, or if you have notes, to use one hand so your gestures can be natural. Do not stand with your hands in your pockets, do not lean on the table in front of you and do not wave your notes about. Eye contact is also very important. Look at people in all parts of the room not just the people in the front row. Making eye contact with each person is perhaps the best way to develop rapport and to keep the interest of everyone in your audience. Remember to smile.
