ABSTRACT
With such merits as flexible adaptability to complex geological and hydrological
conditions, non-contamination, and with strict water resisting, high intensity, integrity,
homogeneity and resiliency frozen curtain, artificial ground freezing method is widely
applied to urban underground engineering, and it is known as green method. While
excessive frost heave during freezing may cause such negative impacts as uneven
nearby building settlement, pavement cracking, underground pipeline damage, etc.
Taking the construction of a subway passageway at Shanghai metro station as
background, the frost heaving control technology using pipe-shed freezing method is
proposed in this dissertation supported by China Coal Technology and Engineering
Group Science and Technology Innovation Fund Project “Research on Technology of
Mine Tunnelling Previously Reinforced by Pipe-shed Freezing Method in Municipal
Engineering” to tackling the problem of frost heaving in shallow covering soil by means
of theoretical analysis, numerical simulation and in-site monitoring.
Firstly, frost heaving control mechanism of pipe-shed freezing is discussed and the
idea that using pipe-shed to help supporting soil pressure could decrease design frozen
wall thickness and frozen soil mass, thus reduce frost heave initially is put forward.
Secondly, basing on this idea, an optimal design to a subway passageway at
Shanghai metro station is conducted by a comparison study of three structure models
