一.Teaching aims
1. Knowledge object:
Key vocabulary: haunted, ghost, trick, treat, spider,dress up as, Halloween
Key sentences: 1). Even little kids dress up as ghosts or black cats.
2). I wonder if it’ll ever become popular in China.
2. Ability objects:
1). Practice listening
2). Learn about some festivals
3). Learn to describe the festival Halloween ( “when”, “where”, “what activities”…)
3. Moral object:
After learning about the foreign festivals, students will have a better understanding of the world culture.
二.Teaching key and difficult points
1. Key points: Learn about Halloween
2. Difficult points: Learn to talk about Halloween and make a report about it.
三. Teaching steps
Step 1 Lead-in
Show some pictures or songs of some Chinese festivals (Spring Festival, Mid-Autumn Day, Lantern Festival, Dragon Boat Festival) and foreign festivals (Thanksgiving Day, April Fool’s Day, Christmas, Halloween) to play a guessing game.
Then ask some students try to tell the dates of the four foreign festivals.
(意图:通过guessing game,即让学生看图或者听歌猜中外节日,活跃课堂气氛,然后简要了解几个外国节日举行的日期,从而引入本课的主题——万圣节。这不仅能激发学生的学习兴趣,还能使学生把学习新内容当成一种自我需要,自然地进入学习新知识的情景。)
Step 2 Presentation
Ask students to look at pictures and words related to Halloween in 1a.
Learn some words and expressions: spider, dress up as, haunted, ghost, trick, treat.
eg: 这只蜘蛛好吓人。 The spider is so scary.
Little kids dress up as ghosts or black cats.
这鬼屋里有三个鬼。There are three ghosts in the haunted house.
If you do not give us a treat, we can play a trick on you.
Ask some students “What do you think this festival is about?”
(意图:通过图片和词汇引起学生兴趣及思考,活跃课堂气氛,让尽可能多的学生动起来,迅速进入上课状态。而且学习与万圣节相关的词汇,可以扫除下面听力中的新单词障碍,降低听力难度,也为下面关于万圣节文化的学习做好铺垫。)
Step 3 Listening
1. Finish 1b: Listen and answer the questions.
Listening skill: pay attention to the key words
1) Where is Halloween popular? In North America.
2) When do people celebrate Halloween? On October 31st.
