Unit 7 It’s raing!
Period 1 Section A (1a---1c)
Language goals:
1. Words and phrases:
rain, windy, cloudy, sunny, snow, weather, Moscow, Toronto, Boston
2. Key sentences:
----How’s the weather in Beijing? /What’s the weather like in Beijing?
-----It’s sunny.
Ability goals:
Enable the students to talk about the weather.
Learning ability goals:
Help the students learn how to talk about the weather.
Teaching important and difficult points:
How to talk about the weather.
Teaching aids:
Multimedia, a tape recorder and some pictures.
Teaching step:
Step 1: Revision
Revise the Present Continuous Tense by talking about the pictures of activities on the screen.
What’s Chen Ruihong doing? She’s reading.
What are the two boys doing? They’re playing ping-pong.
What are the boy and the girl doing? They’re talking on the phone.
What are the students doing? They’re doing homework.
What’s the woman doing? She’s telling us the weather.
Step 2: Free talk and lead-in
Have a free talk about the weather.
Learn new words about the weather by showing the pictures on the screen.
sun--- sunny cloud---cloudy wind---windy
rain---rainy/raining snow---snowy/snowing
Know the weather signs.
Ask one student to write the weather words on the blackboard and the other student to put the correct pictures after the weather words.
Listen to the weather song and then tell us how many kinds of weather they can hear.
Step 3: Guessing game
Make the students guess what kind of weather it is by showing the pictures on the screen.
Step 4: Talking about the picture (1a)
Talk about the picture in 1a with the students.
Ask the students to read the numbered words, match them with the right pictures and check the answers.
Step 5: Listening (1b)
Learn some city names by telling the students my dream. And help them know something about the four cities.
Listen to the tape, write the city names and check the answers.
Step 6: Pairwork (1c)
