A layering system permits users to place lines on arbitrary layers, thereby increasing the possibility of error and miscommunication. Instead, Revit is an object–based system. This means that components are recognized as actual objects, such as walls, doors and windows. When drawing a wall, you do not have to make sure that the wall layer is active. A wall will automatically be part of the wall category. Component Categorization There are three different types of families. They include:? System:System Family. Example: Walls? Standard:Using the Family Editor, a Standard Family can be drawn from scratch based upon a template. The library comes preloaded with many standard families. You can download additional families from the internet. Example: Light fixture? Families in Place:A Family in Place is dependent upon the Project model. It is created and edited solely within a project.
