Jane then begins the writing of First Impressions, the manuscript that will become Pride and Prejudice. The opposition from Tom’s uncle, on whom Tom financially depends, forces them to elope. But Jane eventually gives up and runs away from Tom for his reputation and career. Twenty years later Jane encounters Tom after a gathering. Though she’s never read in public, she makes a exception for Tom’s daughter who admires Janes novels. Postscript In her short life, Jane Austen wrote six of the greatest novels in England.
