The traditional road netw ork models based on the 2D link-node of roadway centerlines, how ever, has in- hibited the increasing needs of 3D microscopic urban transportation applications such as realistic cartographic visualiza- tion, temporal and semantic description and topologic representation at the lane level. T his paper proposes a novel mult-i level road network model, namely Lane-oriented 3D Road Netw ork Model ( 3DLRNM) with a Unified model- ing Language ( UML) . The 3DLRNM adopts Tthe concepts of physical lane, virtual lane and lane ribbon to model the real road network. This paper is focusing on t he implementation issues, such as the lane topology building and lane discretization.
