China Environmental Science, 2010,30(5)：716~720 Abstract ：Combining the numerical analysis method and the ecosystem services function theory, an assessment system for ecological land protection was established . Five dimensions of characteristics were selected, including eco-environmental quality, ecological sensitivity, climate condition, soil condition, and geomorphology. The ecological land was classified into three sub-categories: land of forbidden development, land of restricted development, and land of optimized development. Based on the importance assessment system for ecological land protection, GIS technique was adopted to analyze the importance and spatial distribution of ecological land in Jiangxi Province. Area of ecological land was 2 17223.5km , accounting for 50.3% of the total land area. The percentage of ecological land that should be prohibited for any development activity added up to 10.3%.
