Chapter 3 Input and Output Introduction In this chapter, we present an overview of Input and Output . Inputs are the signals or data received by the system, and outputs are the signals or data sent from it. After you have read this chapter, you should be able to define input and output, describe the different types of input devices, output devices and combination input and output devices. Section A. Input and Input Devices What are Input and Output? Input Input refers to data or signals entered into a computer system for processing or transmission . Output Output means data, typically takes the form of text, graphics, photos, audio and vedio, processed by a computer. Input device Input device is a hardware that can be used to insert data into a computer or other computational device. Output device Output device is a device that presents data from a computer to a user, such as a monitor, a printer, or speaker. Peripheral device Peripheral device is an electronic equipment connected by cable to the CPU of a computer. Any input/output device can be defined as a peripheral device, for example, disk drives and printers are important peripherals. 2.
