* * NComputing has several technologies to enable multi-user computing. First, we developed terminal services software that enables a single PC to function like multiple PCs. This software works in the background, so you don’t actually see this software, but it’s the key technology that provides the full richness of a regular PC session. Second the User eXtension Protocol (or UXP) is the mechanism by which the data and video signals move from the host PC to the user’s terminal. Again, this technology works in the background so you don’t actually see the software, but it’s the path through which data and video signals pass to the users’ terminal. Finally, the access terminals: these are small (size of a small book), stateless devices that are positioned at the student’s work area. Each student will of course need a mouse, keyboard and monitor and all of these peripherals connect to the terminal. * * * * * * * * NComputing eliminates the challenges of deploying a dedicated PC infrastructure. * * With NComputing, the upfront costs are much lower than a PC and it’s very easy to deploy the solution. It takes hours not days to deploy the terminals vs PCs. The ongoing costs are dramatically lower because there are fewer PCs to maintain (1/7th the number). When it’s time to refresh the PCs, just a few have to be refreshed. Support calls typically get reduced by a factor of 10 because there are fewer PCs that can break down. * * * North Carolina Schools are a great example of the power of NComputing. In just one year, 19 different schools districts across North Carolina have installed NComputing systems. 10,000 students use NComputing terminals every day to learn, think and share.
