Everywhere you look, someone is holding up their smartphone and snapping a picture of their face, which will then be posted online for their friends to see and “LIKE”. Two major factors contribute to this selfie craze. First and foremost, the written word lacks the immediate visual impact of photos while selfies help fill the gap and vividly convey various emotions. Moreover, influenced by thousands of celebrity selfies flooding the Internet, young people, especially teenage girls, who are desperate to win the approval of their peers, are blindly following the trend. Despite its charm, I believe selfies also have negative influence. Those accustomed to receiving positive feedback are likely to have mental disorders once they fail to get enough as expected. So we’d better use selfies as a life record rather than a beauty show-off.
