Due to their multimedia features, cartoons have a great potential for use in language instruction. The current study describes the design of a curriculum using cartoons to teach Chinese as a foreign language and evaluates the effectiveness of the curriculum. Participants were twelve American adolescents who were enrolled in an exchange program at a university in Taiwan. Participants’ Chinese proficiency was at the novice-high level.
