In Parts A and B, we will read a short passage and look at a picture to learn vocabulary used in performing. In Part C we will read a speech transcript for a school comedy club and then fill in the blanks with the words that we have learnt from Parts A and B. Idioms ( [ɪdɪəmz]习语；成语；惯用语) related to laughing and smiling are in Part D. We are expected to find out more such idioms and make sentences with them. Words used in performing A. Gao Hua has joined the school Comedy Club and wants to learn something about performing, so he goes to the library and finds a book about acting. Below is a passage he finds in the book. To be a good actor, you need to know the vocabulary used on stage. All the actors in a play are called the cast [（一出戏剧或一部电影的）全体演员] . The person in charge is the director. He or she gives the actors instructions about how to perform. The words that the actors say are called their lines [（戏剧或电影的）台词，对白], and they can be found in the script [剧本；电影剧本；广播（或讲话等）稿] . If you are an actor, you need to know where your character is supposed to stand on the stage. The director will tell you, and sometimes the script will contain instructions. A piece of information like this is called a stage direction [舞台指示（剧本中关于演员上下场、表演动作等的说明）]. The script is divided into sections, called acts [(戏剧、歌剧等的)一幕] and scenes [(戏剧或歌剧的)场] .
