Dear Joan Wong and Jo Mayne foundation: I am writing to express my sincere appreciation for your generous support. Coming from China, it was the first time for me to go abroad to pursue my dreams in Imperial College London. Imperial College has been a desire for me for a long time, but the tuition fee of Imperial College and the high cost to live in London was a heavy burden for my family. Without your generous help, last year I would not have harvested so much in Imperial College. Being a student majoring in Electrical Engineering, it has been an interest to me for a long time to combine power electronics with advanced control techniques to improve the performance of power electronics circuits such as switching mode power supply. With the help of the scholarship, I was able to spare more time to look into the optimal control problems instead of taking part-time jobs to support myself. Imperial College is a place where nothing is impossible, the past one year will the treasure of my whole life: the peer pressure, the passion everyone in Electrical Engineering Department for their work and the countless help I received. The days and nights I spent with my partners solving problems and dealing with bugs and the cheers will be remembered forever. Living in a developing country, sometimes girls have to work harder to pursue their dreams——it is sad but true. I am very grateful that I always have the firm support for my research from my parents, and I think it is high time for people to truely appreciate the wisdom and talents of females. So here please accept my deepest gratefulness for all you have done for females and for science. Wish you all the best XXX
