Ehsan,Z Abdul Rahman Abstract This study was conducted to identify th differences of th secretarial job functions and competencies betw n public and privat sectors in Malaysia. Additionally, from th results obtained, th n ded changes to improv th implementations of public sector servic and productivity are also examined and suggested for improvement. The scope of the study was th secretarial staffs in th public and privat sector employed in Ipoh, Kinta Valley, Perak. Th secretarial staffs position in th public sector is under th titl Administrativ Assistant (Secretarial). A set of questionnaires consisted of close-ended questions were used to gather th n ded information. Th main instruments used for this study is th questionnaire. Th questionnaires wer tested for fac and content validity. Th questionnaires wer personally distributed to all the respondents in the public and private sectors in Ipoh, Perak and specific tim was given for them to answer the questionnaires. From the results obtained via questionnaires, th finding shows that ther ar significant differences in th job functions and job competencies aspects betw n the public sector and private sector. Most of the respondents agr d regarding th essentiality of th job qualification which consists of skills, knowledg and abilities (SKAs) to perform th job functions. It was also found that several aspects such as th secretarial job governance are discussed and emphasized. Finally, the discussion retrieved from the data analysis suggested s
