Ithinka lot of the conflict intheworld startswithtwo peoplewho disagree and thenthey convince others to take sides and things get all blownout of proportion. Really, conflict comesfrom intolerance andwanting everyone to see things theway we see them. What initially promptedyouto set upthe Jackie Chan Foundation in 1988? A few things led upto my setting upthe JCCF. During thefilming of Armorof God in Yugoslavia, Isuffered afractured skullwhile performing a stunt. Iwas very lucky to be alive. It really changed my outlookona lot of things. One result fromthe brush withdeathwas that I begana charity foundationto try and give backto society and all thosewho had supported me forso long.Anotherthing that comes to my mind happened many years ago. When Iwas a young and rising star, my manager arrangedfor me to visit to a children’s hospitalat Christmas time. Irememberthat I showed up at the hospitaland suddenly allthese presents forthe childrenappeared (my manager had bought andwrapped them). Whenthe kids opened the presentstheireyes lit up and they kept thanking me and telling me how muchthey loved me. Ifelt so awful! Ifelt like suchafake because I didn’t know anything about the presents and the kids thought I’d giventhem personally. Fromthat day on Ivowed neverto repeat that kind of behavior.Afterthat I always pickout the presents myself and make surethat Itake care of those less fortunate, especially children. Whenyouwereyoung didyoueverthinkyouwould achieve such recognition inthe filmworld, as a humanitarianambassadorand now as anadvocate for world peace?
