This revised procedure is necessary primarily due to the high cost of many new and effective medicines, as well as advances in the science of evidence-based decision making. The selection criteria is proposed for the new procedure specified that: (1) the absolute cost of the medicine will not be a reason to exclude it from the Model List if it meets the stated selection criteria, and (2) cost-effectiveness comparisons be made among alternative medicines within the same therapeutic group.
