Automotive Human Factors Research Center, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, 1-1-1 Higashi, Tsukuba, Ibaraki 305-8566, JAPAN Abstract This study explored the fundamental human factors related to driving in 100 drivers (50s group: 7 males and 8 females, 60s group: 18 males and 22 females, over 70 group: 23 males and 22 females). Participants completed several measures related to driving, including visual function (visual acuity, kinetic visual acuity, and night vision), cognitive performance (cognitive functioning, memory, task switching, attention, and planning), the Driving Health Inventory® (DHI), and the driving aptitude test. The results showed that the over 70 group received lower scores on the DHI and had lower driving aptitude test performance compared with the 50s and 60s groups.
