Central Nippon Expressway Company Limited, Japan Abstract Since the significant success of the Dynamic Parking Lot Vacancy Information System (PaLVIS) installed in a large rest area on the Tomei Expressway, NEXCO-Central employed this system in all the rest areas on the Shin Tomei Expressway opened in 2012, to help drivers to find out an available parking lot. The overall effectiveness of PaLVIS system in the rest area was evaluated because those rest areas have unique design concepts compared with the Japanese normal rest area layout. This evaluation resulted that almost all parking lots are effectively and constantly occupied specifically in busy time, and drivers travel time to park or exit were relatively stable even in congested time.
