Imtech Traffic Infra, Netherlands Abstract In 2013, Copenhagen launched a public-private innovation (PPI) process to develop future ITS solutions for supporting a carbon neutral city. Fifteen companies and two universities participated in eight cross-disciplinary teams. Copenhagen provided streets to be used as laboratories, where the teams tested new solutions and got user feedback. The PPI process in Copenhagen shows the value of co-creation where private companies, public authorities and universities develop new solutions together with input from the user. The PPI helped the city to scope ITS-investments and pushed the market to come up with new ideas. It also contributed to innovation in the companies and created new partnerships. The outcome of the process was eight new ITS concepts including new ways of gathering real time data, intelligent bus priority, a VMS for cyclists, intelligent street lightning, dynamic urban streets among others.
