Unit 8 When is your birthday? This period is a listening part, appearing before the reading and writing , which can provide the basic language knowledge and listening and speaking skills for students to further talk about the daily schedules. Function of the teaching material The primary function of this part is to present new words and phrases, and explore the topic via the activities of listening and speaking whose aims are to consolidate the application of the topic sentences and strengthen students’ listening skills. 1a present four new phrases concerned with the school important activities, which not only lay a good foundation for 1b~1c but also provide rich resources for the target language of this unit.The purpose of 1d is to enable our students to express what they have listened out. Teaching objectives Knowledge objectives: After the class, students should be able to use the new phrases (English test, party, school trip and basketball game) and sentences to talk about the dates of activities and events. 2. Ability objectives : Improve students’ listening skills . Cultivate the students’ ability to communicate and cooperate with their partners. 3. Emotional objectives: To arouse students interests in English and school activities. Students are willing to speak English in public and ask others’ birthday and daily schedules correctly and politely. 4. Strategies objectives: Use the abbreviation, numbers and notations to help students write down the key information while listening. 5. Cultural awareness: Help students understand the expression and differences of dates in China and foreign country . Teaching foc
