Three types of routine requests
• Request for information or action
• Request for recommendations
• Making claims and requesting adjustments
Messages that make requests
• Opens by immediately describing the request
• The body explains the reasoning behind his request,
and a list asks specific questions which is most
readable.
• Closes with end date and reason. Providing an end
date helps the reader know how to plan a response so
that action is completed by the date given.
Opening
• Be polite
• Send me the research data on Ali-Pay.
• Would you please send me the research data on Ali-Pay.
• I would appreciate very much if you could send me the
research data on Ali-Pay.
• Be specific
• Be sure to say whether you want a 1summary
or 100 pages of raw data on Ali-Pay.
Exercise:
• Suppose you are writing to inquire about hotel
accommodations for your upcoming event, and you
are wondering whether the hotel can provide
meeting rooms and accommodations for 300 people.
How to write the opening request?
