荷载及设计原则:Chapter 8 Fundamental concepts of structural reliability.ppt

Usually we use Pf to measure the reliability of structure in practice. No structures can be deigned to absolutely reliable. What can be achieved is to design the structure so that the probability of failure is sufficiently low or the probability of reliability is sufficiently high. The performance function Z is assumed to be related to two variablesaction effect S and structural resistance R : Z = R - S (1) If Z 0,or R S,the structure is in reliable state ; (2) If Z 0,or R S,the structure is in failure state ; (3) If Z = 0,or R = S,the structure is in limit state . The basic requirement for structural reliability is Z ≥ 0 or R ≥ S If the performance function Z has probability density function f (z), then The probability of reliability can be expressed as The probability of failure can be expressed as Chapter 8 Fundamental concepts of structural reliability The probability of failure Pf is usually determined by integration. If the performance function Z has probability density function , and then the probability of failure Pf is the volume of the area with Z 0 ,see Fig.8-12. It is difficult to calculate the Pf using above equation because we should conduct multiple integration. Except very important structures or new type of structures, we usually use reliability indexβ instead of Pf in design work.
