Teaching aims:
1. Knowledge aims :
(1) Students are able to master new words and phrases: stress, waste, in order to, provide, anyway, depend, depend on, develop, independence, fairness, since, neighbor, take care of, ill, drop, independent
(2) Students are able to understand the main idea of the passage in 2b.
2. Ability aims:
(1) Students are able to improve their reading ability.
(2)Students are able to retell the main idea of the passage about whether kids should do chores at home.
(3) Students are able to solve problems by working with classmates.
3. Emotion aims:
Students learn to share housework at home and show love to their parents.
Teaching key and difficult points:
1. Key points:
(1) Master some important words and phrases.
(2) Understand the main idea of the passage.
2. Difficult points:
Retell the two letters about whether students should do chores at home.
Teaching procedure:
Step 1. Lead in
1. Students watch a video about doing chores. Ask students if they often do chores and what chores they can do.
2. Show the picture in 2b.Lead students to answer two questions:
Q1: What do you often do to help your parents at home?
Q2: Do you think kids should help out with chores at home?
Students answer questions and they can be ready for the new lesson.
Step 2. Reading
1. Fast reading
1) Students read the two letters quickly and match the main idea.
Ms. Miller kids should do chores at home
Mr. Smith kids shouldn’t do chores at home
2) Show students the reading strategy: Skimming.
2. Careful reading
(1) Read the first letter and answer questions:
1. Do kids already have enough stress from school? __________________
2. Why should kids spend their time on schoolwork? _______________________
