Some of art works try to pursue the social value of the principle of eternal truth, then the meaning of the work is frozen in a particular social context or displayed in a museum. However, for the contemporary public art, community engagement is an essential way to redefine its social value and make it local. This article explores distinct dimensions of community engagement by conducting case studies to analyze how local people deconstruct and reconstruct the value of public art. In these cases, community engagement was developed into different stages of community development. The audience appreciated public art for distinct purposes, and the demographic information of the audience also varied. Therefore, from the perspective of the audience, the public artworks thus exhibited different social values. As stated by the decentralization theory proposed by Barthes, the aesthetics of a work and messages from its creator are no longer relevant. Instead, the most attractive aspect of the interaction between people and public art is the creation of community identity by bringing art to life. 　　Keyword：　deconstruction; public art; participatory design; community development; social practice; 　　一、前言 　　公共艺术是同时兼具公共性价值和艺术性价值得、被陈列于公共空间得艺术创作。而“公共”得意义则同时包含了“人”和“场所”得意涵, 即“公众”与“公共场所”得概念。在这样得概念下, 公共艺术得设置除了能改善环境、推广地方观光, 也往往能影响大众得文化与生活。例如借由公共艺术表达地方历史故事得重要意涵, 一方面能营销地方文化, 另一方面则能唤起民众对自身地方价值得认同。然而比起艺术家创作后静静地陈列于公共空间得作品, 通过在地民众参与生产得公共艺术更能突显其社会价值。“参与”得过程可以来自艺术家创作一个能够与民众互动得作品, 借以提升民众对于艺术表达得社会文化
