■ Un it3 Celebrati ons —— Less on1 Festivals( A read ing less on) I Analysis of Teaching Material This is the first less on of this un it. Before this class, the teacher have taught the stude nts vocabulary in Warm-up and Less on 1. The readi ng passage titled FESTIVALS briefly describes three traditi onal festivals of China. Such a topic is closely related to stude ntslife, thus it is very easy to arouse their in terest in lear ning this less on. The text covers 3 sect ions. Teacher should en courage stude nts to skim for the gen eral idea for each secti on, and sca n for further un dersta nding, because this less on in troduces a lot of useful new words and expressions which are only used for festivals. In order not to let students feel much difficult, the teacher should deal with any Ian guage problems while they are readi ng. After readi ng, stude nts are required to do the exercises in the each step to see how much they have un derstood the read ing passage. The teacher can let them work in pairs or in groups to find the answers cooperatively, and then check their answers with the whole class. To con solidate the contents of the read ing passage, stude nts should be required to talk about festivals in their own words at the end of the class. Moreover, homework is very importa nt for an effective class. So the students are assigned to write a composition about Spring Festival, based on what they have lear ned in this less on. Teachi ng Aims: Lear n and master the useful words and phrases. Let the student learn about 3 traditional Festivals of China. Train the stude nts skim ming and summariz ing ability duri ng read ing the text. Encourage studentsto learn more about Chinese festivals and cultivate their love to our traditional culture.
