Knowledge aims: 1) students will master some key words, phrases, and sentences in the text, such as integrity, milestone, wage, taxes, mature, credit, take responsibility for, contribute to, I will be signing an organ donation agreement this time tomorrow… 2) Get students to learn some useful new words and expressions in this part. 2. Ability aims: 1) Students can get the main idea of the passage and improve their skills of reading. 2) Students will be able to summarize the reading material and extend the content in a broader way etc. 3. Emotional aims 1) To comprehensively understand the real meaning of growing up not just for themselves, but also for our families, friends, even strangers and our country. 2) Develop students’ sense of group cooperation and teamwork. II. Important points and difficult points 1. Important points: Students will learn words and expressions used to describe the meaning of growing up. 2. Difficult points: Use the learned words to express their daily life fluently and freely. III. Teaching procedures Step 1: Lead-in Show the poem of “If” by Kipling and let students enjoy it and figure out the qualities a man needs to be mature which marks the age of majority. Guess what you are allowed to do when growing up. Step 2: General reading Find out different understanding of reaching the age of majority from three students in three different areas. Choose another suitable title of this passage based on the general understanding. Step 3: Factual reading: read for detailed information. Work out the key information based on each person and answer four key questions separately. Why did Bethany’s mother feel worried? What changed when Lin Ning turned 18? What do you think of Morgan’s character? How do you understand “some responsibilities are more about attitude than age” ? Sometimes it is not age but attitude that really matters.
