Module 4 Sandstorms in Asia Designed by Lu Yuanyuan I. The function of this period: The Reading part---- Sandstorms in Asia is in the second period of the whole module. It introduces the status of sandstorms in Asia, especially in China, and some words about sandstorms and environmental protection. It includes the key words, sentence patterns and grammar of this module. II. Teaching aims and demands: 1. Knowledge: Help the students learn the following words and phases: mass,desertification,process,citizen,dust,forecast,cycle,mask, be caught in…, a terrible experience, prevent…(from) doing, cut down trees and dig up grass. 2. Skills: Train students ability of summarizing. Train students ability of understanding the vocabulary by learning in the context. 3. Cultural awareness: Enable the students to talk about the cause and influence of sandstorms,and the ways to protecting the environment. III. Teaching aids: PPT IV. Teaching Methods: 1. Task-based 2. Individual/Pair/Group/Class Work V. Teaching Strategy Encourage the students to search the information on the Internet to gain more knowledge of sandstorms and environmental protection. VI. Teaching Procedures: Step 1 Revision Get the students to list the natural disasters they have known. Step 2 Lead-in: In module 3, we mainly talked about tornadoes and hurricanes. Today we are going to focus on another disaster. Now watch a video clip and answer the questions: What is happening? What should he do when being caught in a sandstorm?
