Mansfield was born in a rich family in Wellington, the capital of New Zealand on October 14th, 1888. Her father was a wealthy merchant who became the chairman of the Bank of New Zealand by his hard work in the end. Though her mother was a housewife, she took little care of the five daughters and one son. It was her grandmother who gave these children the warmth of home. Their parents focused much on the kids’ education.
