Unit 2 Reading: A Christmas Carol Section B 2a-2e 一、Teaching aims 1. Language aims: 1) To understand and use the words and expressions:Santa Claus, carol, lie, novel, dead, business, punish, warn sb. (not) to do sth. mean, remind of, wake up , present, warmth, spread, promise sb. To do sth. 2) To understand the objective clauses: ① Many would agree that when we think of Christmas... ② He just cares about whether he can make more money. ③ Scrooge sees that he is dead, but nobody cares. 2. Ability aims: ① To understand the passage and finish the tasks correctly. ② To improve the reading skills. 3. Emotional aims: Learn the foreign culture and cultivate the love for our family,friends and country. 二、Teaching key points and difficulties 1. Key points: 1)Understand the new words and expressions , use them correctly. 2)Finish the tasks after the passage. 2. Difficulties: 1)The usage of objective clauses. 2)Retell the passage. 三、Teaching procedures StepⅠ. Warming-up and lead-in Greet the students. Enjoy a song “Jingle Bells〞. Ss listen and answer : What is the song about? They are animals. They are black and white. They like eating bamboos.They only live in China. Lead into the topic “Christmas〞. Watch a short video to learn more about Christmas. Ss look and answer: Wat are the common things when we think of for Christmas? StepⅡ. Presentation Present some pictures about Christmas.Three parts: date , symbols, activities. Present the title “A Christmas Carol〞 Step Ⅲ. Skimming Present three paragraphs of the passage. Teacher gives the reading skill “skimming〞. Ss read quickly and match the main idea with each paragraph. Ask Ss to share the answers. Get the details of each paragraph. Listen to the first paragraph and answer: What is the true meaning of Christmas? Ask Ss to find the objective clause in paragraph 1. Read and answer: Who Wrote A Christmas Carol? Then give a brief introduction of Charles Dickens. Step Ⅳ. Scanning Teacher gives the reading skill: scan
