What is the definition of culture ? In short, culture is the total accumulation of beliefs, customs , values, behaviors, institutions and communication patterns that are shared, learned, and passed down through generations in an identifiable group of people. II. What are characteristics of culture ? Culture is shared. Culture is learned. Culture is symbolic. Culture is integrated. Culture is dynamic. Culture is ethnocentric. Part Two Lead-in I. Whether the instances are a kind of Communication? 1.You send an E-mail message to an American friend. 2. Two blind people exchange their ideas in Braille. 3. A German businesswoman negotiates through an interpreter with his Chinese counterpart. 4. A farmer gives instructions to his ploughing cow. 5. A programmer issues commands to a computer. II.There are five types of communication. They are: 1.human communication by human verbal language; 2.animal communication by animal language; 3.human-animal communication by human non-verbal language; 4.human-machine communication by artificial language; 5. machine-machine communication by artificial/ computer language.
