(2) Get a general understanding of the story of Charlie Chaplin.

(1) Learn to find the main idea of each paragraph.
(2) Learn to describe or interview a person.

(1) Have a taste of English humor, and get a general idea of types of humor.
(2) Arouse students’ interest in English language, film and etc.
Key points and difficult points in teaching:
Key points : Enable students to get a general idea about Charlie Chaplin.
Difficult points: divide the passage and get the main idea of each paragraph.

Teaching procedure:
Step 1. Warming up
Greetings
The teacher show some pictures on the screen. And then the teacher asks students the question:
T: Hello, boys and girls. Now imagine that I am a reporter from China Daily. I want to do a survey about humor, can you team up with me?
Ss: Yes.
T: Now, look at the pictures below, and which picture can make you laugh?
Ss:(laughed)
T: Do you feel funny? Do you think they are humourous?
Ss: Yes.
T: Can you list some types of humor?
Ss: Crosstalk, film…
T:ok, very good, and I will show you the other types of humor.
(show the pictures and explain the necessary part.)
Then the teacher sums up the types of humor on the blackboard.
T: Thanks so much for giving me the useful information.

T: Do you want to know more about this person (Shows Charlie’s picture.)
Ss: Yes.
(The teacher shows the famous works of Charlie Chaplin.)
