Dying to be thin First let me talk about the teaching material The selected teaching material is from the Reading section of Module1 unit of Advance with English. This unit introduces and develops the theme of looking good and feeling good. Ss are provided with a chance to debate which is more important, beauty or health. The reading material is made up of three r-emails written by two good friends who exchange their opinions about appearance and health after one of them has almost died while trying to lose weight in an unsafe way. Students are expected to not only identify and grasp the main topics of the e-mails but learn to understand sentences with however and but. As we all know, reading belongs to the input during the process of the language learning, the input has great effect on output, such as speaking and writing. Therefore, this lesson plays an important role in this unit. According to the new standard curriculum and syllabus, after studying the teaching material, I think the teaching aims are the following.(根据新课标和教学法) 1?Students?are?able?to?grasp?the?main?point?of?the?three?e-mails.?? 2?Students?are?able?to?know?that?nothing?is?more?important?than?health.??3?Students?are?able?to?express?their?own?opinions?about?the?topic Knowledge objects A. The ss can master the usage of the important words and expressions. B. Students?are?able?to?grasp?the?main?point?of?the?three?e-mails. C.Ss can?use?reading?strategy:?understand?sentences?with?“however”?or? “but” Ability objects To develop the ss’ abilities of reading. b.Students?are?able?to?express?their?own?opinions?about?the?topic. C. Know?how?to?write?an?email Emotion or moral objects Students?are?able?to?know?that?health?is?more?important?than?appearance.? Now let’s come to the important points and difficulties. 1.
