Confucius Experience Younger days He was from a declining aristocratic(贵族) family. His father died when he was three years old, and he was brought up in poverty. In his younger days, he worked as a cowherd（牧童), clerk(文书) and lecturer(讲学,讲师). At the age of 23, Confucius began to accept disciples in and gave lectures in the countryside. (乡间讲学收徒) Mature days By the age of 40,he set up an academy to popularize Confucianism .By accepting students from all sorts of backgrounds, he broke the tradition of education only for the upper classes.（办私学） He traveled with his disciples from state to state and presented his political ideas to different rulers only to be repeatedly rebuffed.（周游列国） Story （丧家之犬） Once Confucius separated with his disciples, Confucius stayed in a daze beside the gate. Zigong asked the people in Zheng State:“Where is Confucius?”. They said an old man who stayed at the east gate of the city wall was just like an outcast in a daze. ■ Which six literatures have been compiled by Confucius？ ■ How many disciples did Confucius have? For example, who are they? Confucius had three thousand disciples, of which 72 are sages, such as Yan Hui, Zi Lu, Zi Gong, Ran You.
