Discuss the following questions with your partners. ; Dream Works-A Prominent Figure in Animation Films DreamWorks SKG, or simply known as DreamWorks, is an American film studio which develops, produces, and distributes films, video games, and television programs. It was founded in 1994 by three ambitious media moguls—Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and David Geffen (with “SKG”standing for the first letters of each founder’s family names). To date, it has produced or distributed more than ten films with box-office grosses totaling more than $100 million each. ; This makes the corporation enjoy a high reputation in the United States and abroad. Not long after its foundation, DreamWorks, in 1995, established its partnership with Pacific Data Images to form a subsidiary PDI, LLC. This would produce computer-generated feature films by putting CGI technology into film production, with Antz (1998) being one of the representative works. In 1997, DreamWorks joined hands with Aardman Animation to expand its business into stop- motion films by distributing Chicken Run (2000). ;The releases of Shrek (2001), Shrek II (2004), and Shark Tale (2004) marked the relatively proficient adoption of CGI technology in film production and enabled DreamWorks to gradually get its popularity worldwide. As DreamWorks’ Animation became independent and formed DreamWorks Animation SKG in 2004, large amount of financing was needed to continue operations.
