07 英本（6）班 070201604 姚丽珠 (At the first appearance on linguistics,I just have centain interests in learning it,though it is always connected with dullness. ) Generally,linguistics is defined as the scientific study of language and can be divided into two aspects,which are called the pure (or theoretical) lingustics and applied linguistics.While,language is a complicated entity with multiple layers and facets,so it is hardly possible for the linguists to deal with it all at once.Thus,they always have to concentrate on specifit point of it at a time.To such a centain extent, linguistics develops into a number of relatively independent branches,which include phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics. To my part,once I have come across a reading teacher who provided me a chance on pragmatics.He introduces something about the principles when our people are involved in conversations,which appeals my great interest in it. I would like to talk little related to the pragmatics from my point of views. Broadly speaking,language communication does not occur in a vacuum.When the study of meaning is conducted,not in isolated,but in the context of language,it becomes a branch of liguistic study called pragmatics. As a new science,it is concerned by more and more people in modern society,which shows its important role. Pragmatics,a study of how speakers of a language use sentences to effect successful communication,stesses on the utterance,conceret and context-dependent.During the development of pragmatics,the cooperative principle has been put forward by Paul Grice.It goes like that:“Make your conversational contribtion such as required at the stage at which it occurs by the accepted purpose or direction of the talk exchange in which you are engeged”.To furthur explain the principle,four maxims are mentioned,which are the maxim of quantity, the maxim of quality, the maxim of relation and the maxim of manner.It requires the information to be confine
