The electric locomotive itself does not carry power, the required power is provided by the electric traction power supply system. Traction power supply system consists of traction substation and overhead contact system (or power supply rail). Substation is set up near the railway, sending current conveyed by the high voltage transmission line or cable from power plant to OCS over the rail track or to power supply rail.
