Many companies have eliminated th eir private fleet by contracting out the required delivery services. Although the use of a contract carrier can eliminate a costly private delivery fleet, not all companie find thi option feasible. Some companies have customers with special product delivery needs that cannot be sufficiently met by a contract carrier. The majority of companies that operate a private fleet offer a specialised or unique service to their customers through the private fleet. Without the private fleet, most of these companies would lo se a strategic competitive advantage and jeopardise their customer base.
