Unit 2 How do you come to school Checkout time and ticking time 1. Introduction Unit 2 of the English textbook for Grade 5 focuses on how to travel to school and the time it takes to travel. This unit is designed to help students learn how to ask and answer questions about their daily routines and travel time, improve their English listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. 2. Learning Objectives By the end of this unit, students will be able to: Ask and answer questions about different modes of transportation for traveling to school. Express their own means of transportation for traveling to school. Understand the meaning of ‘checkout time’ and ‘ticking time,’ and the differences between them. Use these new vocabulary words and phrases in various sentence structures. 3. Vocabulary This unit includes several new vocabulary words and phrases related to travel and timing, including: Walk, bike, bus, subway, taxi, car. Minutes, hours, morning, afternoon, evening, time. 4. Classroom Activities Activity 1: Discussion Begin Unit 2 by having a class discussion about the different ways students travel to school. This can be done either as a class discussion or in small groups. Ask students about their travel routines, and have them answer questions like: How do you come to school every day? How long does it take you to get to school? Which mode of transportation do you like to use? Why? Have you ever traveled to school by taxi or subway? Activity 2: Role-play Divide students into pairs and have them role-play different scenarios based on Unit 2 vocabulary. For example, Partner A can ask Partner B about their travel routine and checkout or ticking time, and Partner B can respond. After a few minutes, switch roles. Activity 3: Vocabulary Games There are many vocabulary games that can help students learn the new words and phrases in Unit 2. For example, you can use flashcards to play ‘Memory Game,’ or play ‘Charades’ where students act out different modes of transportat
