By reading the quote, students are getting to know the theme of the unit. Telling apart Help Ss practice the pronunciation of the phonetic sounds: /a:/, /?/,/?/, /a?/, /s/, /z/,/e/. Read the proverbs and sayings and practice the tongue twister. Play the recording and ask Ss to read aloud. Correct their pronunciation when necessary. For more exercises, please see Optional exercises in Teacher’s Book. (三)Testing your ears Read new words, phrases and expressions in Word Bank. Listening exercises: simple sentences and short conversations. Watch a video clip titled “Telecommunications and the Internet”. Explain each new word or phrase with examples which have presented in PPT. When doing exercises, tell Ss to read the four choices in advance;pay attention to the importance of grammatical coherence.
