The novel is widely considered to be a classic of English literature, and over the years, it has been translated into many different languages. In this report, we will be discussing the story of Gulliver’s Travels, the main themes and ideas it explores, as well as our personal opinions on the book.
Summary
Gulliver, the protagonist of the novel, is a ship surgeon who, after a series of unfortunate events, ends up on the shores of Lilliput, where he is taken prisoner by a nation of tiny people who are no more than 6 inches tall. Despite his initial fear, Gulliver begins to adapt to his surroundings and learns about the culture, customs, and politics of Lilliput.
Gulliver’s next journey takes him to the opposite extreme in Brobdingnag, where he is now the tiny one in a land of giants. There, he encounters numerous challenges and difficulties, but he also learns more about the kindness and generosity of some of the giants he meets.
His third journey takes him to Laputa, a floating island where the residents are obsessed with science and mathematics. Gulliver eventually leaves Laputa and heads to Japan, where he spends some time before setting out on his final journey.
On his last journey, Gulliver is traveling to a remote land when he is shipwrecked on the island of the Houyhnhnms, where he finds horses who are very different from any he has seen before. They are highly intelligent, and they use their communication skills to form a peaceful and harmonious society, unlike the barbaric and warlike Yahoos who live on the same island. Gulliver begins to despise humans and wishes to stay with the horses, but eventually, he must return home.
