高中生英语语言石化现象研究的中期报告 Introduction: Language is a critical tool for communication spanning across various fields of life. It is an essential aspect of human beings, with vast differences in dialect, communication style, and delivery. Language is often regarded as the hallmark of civilization, a standard for measuring cultural and intellectual attainment. However, the language of many high school students has undergone a phenomenon known as language fossilization. The bone of contention in this phenomenon is the inaccurate or incorrect usage of vocabulary, idioms, and sentence structure, among others. Language fossilization has raised concerns about the effectiveness of language education and the need to create a better educational framework that promotes language learning. Methodology: Data collection comprised two main sources, one being administrative language tests, and the second being classroom observations. Administrative language tests covered areas such as grammatical accuracy, vocabulary usage, syntax, and organizational skills. The classroom observations evaluated aspects such as participation level, vocabulary comprehension, sentence construction, and grammatical indentation. The data analysis process documented errors, inconsistencies, strengths, and weaknesses in learners language usage. The analysis led to the identification of language fossilization patterns in the students language. Results: Preliminary findings indicate that high school students exhibit language fossilization specifically in their grammar and vocabulary usage. Common grammatical errors noted include subject-verb agreement errors, incorrect verb tense usage, poor sentence structure, among others. Vocabulary related errors that were noted included the use of incorrect synonyms, inconsistent use of idioms, and failure to understand contextual meaning.
