Introduction:

Humourisanessentialpartofanylanguageandculture.Itcanbefoundinliterature,socialinteractions,advertising,movies,andmanyotherdomains.Translatinghumourisconsideredoneofthemostchallengingaspectsoftranslationbecausehumourliesinthelinguisticplayingofwordsandculturalreferences,whichoftenhavenodirectequivalenceinotherlanguages.Therefore,humourtranslationrequiresadeepunderstandingofboththesourceandtargetculturesandlanguages.

ThepurposeofthisprojectistoexplorethestrategiesandprinciplesthatcanbeusedtotranslatehumoureffectivelyfromEnglishtoChinese.ThestudywilltaketheformofatranslationprojectwhereaselectedhumoroustextinEnglishwillbetranslatedintoChinese,andthetranslationprocesswillbeanalyzedtoidentifythestrategiesandprinciplesused.

Methodology:

Thestudywilluseaqualitativeresearchapproach.Thedatawillbecollectedthroughthreemainsteps:

1.Selectionofthehumoroustext:Ahumoroustextwillbeselectedfromarangeofsourcessuchasnovels,plays,movies,orTVshows.Theselectedtextneedstomeetthefollowingcriteria:itshouldbehumorous,containlinguisticandculturalreferencesthatareuniquetothesourcelanguageandculture,andhavenodirectequivalenceinChinese.

2.Translationprocess:TheselectedtextwillbetranslatedintoChinesebyaprofessionaltranslator.Thetranslatorscommentsandobservationsaboutthetranslationprocesswillberecorded.Theseobservationswillbeusedtoidentifythestrategiesandprinciplesusedtotranslatehumour.

3.Analysis:Thetranslationprocessandthestrategiesandprinciplesusedwillbeanalyzed.Theanalysiswillfocusonthefollowingaspects:
