2.Functionalview
Thefunctionalviewisoneofthethreeviewsoflanguagethathaveinfluenced
languageteachingandlearningpractice.
Itnotonlyseeslanguageasalinguisticsystembutalsoameansfordoingthings:
offering,suggesting,advising,apologizing,etc.Therefore,learnerslearnalanguage
inordertodothingswithit.
Inordertoperformfunctions,learnersneedtoknowhowtocombinethegrammatical
rulesandthevocabularytoexpressnotionsthatperformthefunctions.
Examplesofnotionsaretheconceptofpresent,pastfuturetime,theexpressionsof
certaintyandpossibility,therolesofagents,instrumentswithinasentence,and
specialrelationshipsbetweenpeopleandobjects.
3.Interactionalview
Theinteractionalviewoflanguageisoneofthethreeviewsoflanguagethathave
influencedlanguageteachingandlearningpractice.
Itconsiderslanguagetobeacommunicativetool,whosemainuseistobuildup
andmaintainsocialrelationsbetweenpeople.
Learnersnotonlyneedtoknowthegrammarrulesandvocabularyofthelanguagebut
asimportantlytheyneedtoknowtherulesofusingtheminawholerangeof
communicativecontext.
