Anewhybridprocessfortreatingwastewater,combiningmembranemicrofiltrationandflotation,was

investigated.Thehybridprocesscombinestheadvantagesofbothmembraneseparationandflotation:theflotation

cellremovedalargeproportionofsuspendedsolidparticleswhilethemembranemoduleproducedacleanwater

permeateeffluent.Thehybridprocesswasinvestigatedusinganaqueoussuspensionofironcolloidalparticles

producedinsitu.Processparametersinvestigatedwere:effectofgasflowrate,whichwasnecessaryfortheflotation

process,andthefrequencyandlengthofbackflushing,requiredinordertoreducethefoulingofmembranesandto

extendtheirusefulworkingtime.Theresultsindicatedthatthereaseofairflowratepositivelyaffectedthehybrid

cellperformance,uptoacriticalvalue.Backflushing,ontheotherhand,resultedinanimprovementofthehybrid

cellperformance.
